In 2010, I founded the 501(c)3 organization, Black is the New Green (BNG). Under the persona Diva Ø, I led an environmentally-focused social media movement anchored by live events such as the annual Eco-Hustle (photos below). The goal of BNG was to increase the awareness and participation of African Americans in the environmental movement. BNG made a significant impact turning awareness into environmental action in Baltimore City. Through BNG I had the opportunity to befriend and partner with Majora Carter and the U.S. Green Building Council to bring more green buildings to Baltimore, and I was a semifinalist for both the 2014 Echoing Green Climate Fellowship and the 2015 J.M. Kaplan Innovation Prize. While I chose to shutter the organization in 2016, BNG remains one of my proudest accomplishments.
